Propel Her – Defence Women’s Leadership Series was co-founded by Lyndsay Freeman and Shamsa Lea in August 2020. The series consists of short articles and essays by the #PropelHerAUS team and guest author submissions. Lyndsay Freeman
Lyndsay is a mother of two and Transport Officer in the Australian Army. A former Chief of Army Scholar, she is currently the Senior Instructor for the ADF’s Gender, Peace & Security Courses at the Peace Operations Training Centre. Lyndsay is passionate about the ADF’s pivotal role in advocating for women’s empowerment across the globe.
Shamsa Lea
Shamsa is a Senior Manager in Workforce Transformation, Air Force Logistics Officer, leadership coach and board director of a Veteran Support Organisation. She has been engaged in female recruitment, retention and progression activities in Defence for a number of years, with a specific interest in helping ADF women achieve their leadership potential.
Lily is a Public Affairs Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force. She is currently a Team Leader at the 1st Joint Public Affairs Unit. She has previously been engaged in human resources and communications roles across a tri-service environment. Lily is passionate about equity and diversity in the workplace, particularly on the impact of cultural norms on women. She hopes to play a small part in helping ADF women feel seen and reach their full potential.Â
Leigh-teagan is a Nursing Officer in the Australian Army. She is the Lead Instructor for the Health Training Team at the School of Health. She credits her time as a Platoon Commander of a tri-service holding Platoon for cementing her passion for mentoring and leadership development of women in the ADF.Â
